Tactics Ogre differs widely from Ogre Battle: unlike its Real Time Strategy predecessor, it does not take place on Xenobia, and it is a Turn-Based Strategy game which focuses on a much smaller group of people. Fight it out!Ī game in the popular Ogre Battle series, Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (Episode VII), was the final game by Yasumi Matsuno at Quest before he left for other pastures. Alternatively, you could try the One Vision mod, which is supposed to be very high quality, totally revamping the game's balance and gameplay mechanics, supposedly for the (much) better.Fear is only the beginning.
I haven't played it in years and this is all off the top of my head. Don't be shy about using tarot cards or rewinding battle with them.Affinities) by recruiting an enemy with a high level one, perma-killing them, then salvaging that ability on to whatever unit you want. This is a bit of an advanced tip for later in the game, but you can save yourself the time of grinding out certain ability levels (e.g.The best way to grind these up is to just make a team of them and go auto-battle at the first field map with its low level floor for enemies. You won't have to worry about units perma-dying quite as much, since you can just plop someone in that high level class, but conversely classes you haven't used will begin at level 1. Class levels are shared, which is both a blessing and a heavy curse.Unique and semi-unique (unique portrait but not model) characters have inherently lower RT, meaning they will always be faster than generics, and thus superior.A lot of spells are going to seem useless or underpowered. A good trick on certain infamous rescue mission maps is to unequip Canopus of all his armor (to speed him up), put a Lobber on him with Field Alchemy, and have him blitz over and heal the NPC. The Lobber is a very powerful tool with it, you can throw items many spaces. The best technique IIRC is to buy a bunch of Scrolls of Exorcism and just have units toss those at the undead corpses, rather than having to have Clerics cast it on every one. You can only Exorcise undead enemies when they're corpses, but you need to stay on top of doing this or they'll revive infinitely. You have to manually craft each material 1-by-1, with an ever-present chance of failure.
Use the crafting system to upgrade equipment where possible.I usually have my Denam as a dagger-wielding Ninja until postgame. Daggers can be incredibly powerful on Ninja if you stack DEX where you can, especially with crafted gear.Once you unlock Ninja, that's also one of the most OP jobs in the game, being both speedy, tanky (with the Steelstance ability), and deadly with dual wield. But Canopus - who is the best unit in the game, by the way - can mostly stick to his Vartan job for its increased mobility. For human units, the best job for ranged abuse is predictably going to be Archer.Crossbows cannot fire beyond their range, but get access to very powerful Finishing Moves early on.Bows can fire well beyond their stated range depending on elevation, which you can see with the Trajectory ability.
